Sustainability

Our Approach to Addressing the Climate Crisis.

 SPARKING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

As a national independent connection provider, East Solutions has established a strong reputation for contributing to the UK’s pursuit of a greener and more sustainable future. For 15 years, we have assisted clients in harnessing renewable energy across various technologies, including solar, wind, and biogas, while implementing innovative storage solutions. Our commitment to advancing renewable energy connections drives us to remain at the forefront of the industry.

Internally, we recognise the imperative for operational change. “Sparking A Sustainable Future” is our pledge to addressing the climate crisis. It includes assessing our own carbon footprint and the broader impact of our services. Through this initiative, we aim to achieve a 50% reduction in our carbon footprint by 2030 by reviewing our six key pillars and setting targets for scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

 Our Six Key Pillars

Our approach embodies a commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and proactive action. We remain dedicated to making significant strides towards a more sustainable future at every stage of our journey.

 Health, Safety and Wellbeing

  • We make it a priority to get things right the first time around. By avoiding mistakes and rework, we generate less waste while reducing the risk of accidents and errors. Since 2019, we have proudly maintained a Riddor Reportable incident-free environment.

  • Beyond our occupational health provision, we offer private medical insurance, ensuring our employees have access to the best healthcare services. We aim to actively combat the stigma associated with mental health issues, providing certified Mental Health First Aiders.

  • Personal Protective Equipment is provided to all employees at no cost.

  • Biannual team talks and stand-down days foster a culture of open dialogue, where health, safety, quality, and environmental concerns are shared and solutions are collectively sought.

  • Our "Switched On" initiative empowers staff to proactively engage—offering them a voice to provide feedback, suggest ideas, report hazards and near misses. Incentivised on a quarterly basis, we believe in actively involving our employees in the planning and implementation of H&S measures.

 Environment

  • Our pledge to the environment is embodied in our  Sustainability Policy.

  • Our target is to reduce waste to landfill by 10% annually. In pursuit of this, we have eradicated single-use plastics cups from our workplace.

  • Recognising that our fleet contributes significantly to our emissions, we actively promote car sharing, encourage the use of public transportation, and implement hybrid working arrangements to decrease travel frequency. Whilst researching solutions to decarbonise our fleet entirely, we invest in carbon offsetting projects.

  • We prioritise the use of energy-efficient equipment and appliances throughout our business.  This includes selecting office equipment with energy-saving features and ensuring proper maintenance and periodic servicing to optimise their efficiency

  • Our quarterly newsletter shares practical tips for sustainable living, inspiring our employees to integrate eco-friendly habits into their everyday lives.

  • Every operational team member undergoes thorough environmental training, enhancing their knowledge on minimising pollution, conserving energy, and responsible waste management.

Responsible Resourcing

  • From inception to execution, we design with the planet in mind. Specialising in transformer upgrades, we offer our clients feasibility studies that assess the benefits of upgrading to modern low-loss units, as well as advocating for the use of refurbished transformers.

  • Understanding that our goals are intertwined with our partners, we are developing a sustainability questionnaire aimed at better understanding the sustainable practices within our supply chain. This includes evaluating the sourcing and management of emissions. Our goal is to support our smaller suppliers in enhancing their sustainability measures.

  • We've made it our duty to source responsibly. Our goods and services come from suppliers who share our ethos of sustainability and best business practice

  • Collaborating with a network of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), we engage local, often family-operated businesses that contribute skilled labour and services to our construction projects.

  • Onsite, we seize every opportunity to ensure that oils are recycled responsibly, and aged equipment is given new life through refurbishment.

 Charitable Giving

  • Together, we have the power to initiate positive change within our communities. We take immense pride in our partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital, amongst other sponsorships within the local communities.

  • By supporting charities we're addressing the concerns that resonate with our workforce. Our approach is centred on active participation—not just financial contributions.

  • Our Charity Committee manages our collaborations with charity organisations. We organise regular fundraising challenges to engage our staff in supporting our charity partners.

  • We recognise that each individual has causes close to their heart, and so, we have introduced a policy enabling a full paid day of leave for charity work. This empowerment allows our staff to step into the community and contribute to a cause of their choosing, helping to transform lives and enacting real change.

 Customer Service

  • Over the past 15 years, our company has experienced consistent growth, crediting this achievement to our high quality and customer service at a fair price. We work with an open-door policy that creates trust and respect among clients and partners. Our practices are designed to be transparent, building lasting relationships based on mutual respect and integrity.

  • It's our ambition to ensure that every customer experience is exceptional, marked by clear communication regarding their projects and the construction process, coupled with a prompt and attentive resolution to any concerns that may emerge.

  • At the heart of our customer service strategy lies our unique approach to value engineering. This not only entails cost efficiency but also pushes the boundaries of what our services can offer our customers.

  • Subjected to rigorous quarterly audits by NERS auditors, we offer additional assurance that we don't just comply with, but exceed industry regulations and standards.

  • Your privacy is paramount to us. We manage your data with the utmost care, adhering to legal standards while ensuring complete transparency in how your information is utilised.

 Our People

  • We draw strength from different perspectives, beliefs, and backgrounds. We firmly uphold the principle that no person seeking to be a part of our team should encounter discrimination This encompasses all aspects of identity, including but not limited to gender, marital status, race, ethnicity, colour, nationality, physical ability, sexual orientation, faith and age

  • Investing in our people is synonymous with investing in our future.  Every individual – regardless of experience level – has access to comprehensive internal and external training initiatives, which are tailored to support their personal aspirations and professional objectives. Annual appraisals pave the way for clear goal-setting, ensuring that every career path is marked with milestones of personal and professional growth.

  • Our approach towards health and wellbeing is inclusive and comprehensive. The private medical insurance we offer extends its benefits to all employees. With mental health being a critical component of overall wellbeing, East Solutions has certified in-house Mental Health First Aiders; fighting against the stigmas associated with mental health issues.
